What? A Classic Powerlifting competition and community event

Compete internationally

Iron Island is an international IPF-rules powerlifting competition hosted by Malta Powerlifting.

This event is open to athletes from all national federations who want the experience of competing abroad — without needing selection for European or World Championships or a place on their national team.

As long as your federation approves your participation, you are good to go.

Competition format

Classic Full Powerlifting meet.

Open to: • Sub-Junior, Junior, Open and all Masters categories.

All weight categories


Podiums

Podiums awarded based on GL points, as per below.

Top 3 Male and Female in:

• Sub-Junior / Junior

• Open

• Masters (all Masters categories combined)

If more than 10 Sub-Junior athletes register, Sub-Junior and Junior divisions will have separate podiums.

IPF technical rules apply. Flights seeded based on nominated totals.


Team awards

• Calculated across all age and weight categories. Per country.

• Based on GL points.

• Grouped by country.

• Minimum 3 lifters per country required to qualify for team ranking. Up to five lifters per country, determined by GL points, will count toward the final score.


Terms & Conditions

• Must belong to an IPF-affiliated national federation.

• Federation approval required via official email. 

• Athletes will be nominated with their best official result within the last 12 months.

• Result must be verifiable on OpenPowerlifting or official competition results must be provided.

• Impact on local rankings/qualifications is determined by the athlete’s national federation.

• Participants under 18 must provide signed parental consent and be accompanied by a coach. This must be filled out and sent to mltpowerlifting@gmail.com for registration to be valid.

• International records cannot be broken.

• Maltese national records may only be broken by Maltese athletes.

• A jury may or may not be appointed, depending on available volunteer participation (referees and streaming crew).

• All results will be published on OpenPowerlifting.

Saturday 26 September – Competition Day 1

Saturday 26 September evening – BBQ and low key hangout by the pool

Sunday 27 September – Competition Day 2 (09:00–16:00)

Sunday 19:30 – Drinks / Mingle / Party by the pool (Details to follow)
